With plenty of space for the seven competitors, it would not be down to that which would spoil their day. It would be more like the hot weather which saw fish cruising just under the surface, a sure sign that feeding was not on their minds, despite previous reports of good fishing. Even so, it would be down to the area they did fancy the odd nimble!
Draw is always important on any match and last years top junior Ben Gregoriades showed his skill once more at pulling the ‘rabbit out of the hat’ with an end peg at the top of the swimming pool bank (peg 4). But it was Dan Norris on peg 12 who had the first fish, a decent size common of 11lb 1oz. Not to be denied, Ben then proceeded to take a further 5 fish for a total of 51lb 10oz, topped by an even bigger common of 11lb 14oz and an easy win. Dan did add to that first fish with another two, to register a 29lb 8oz for second place. Our young female star, Jessica Carter, usually goes for the masses of silvers present in the lake and had a stellar day weighing in a superb net of roach, rudd and perch for 15lb 10ozs for third place.
