First Eighty Founding

Below is a list of the founding fathers of the Society - up till 1900 documenting officers and committee members.

Edward Stedman  - Chairman and Vice-President.  1882 AGM is Mayor.  1884 AGM described as ‘Alderman Stedman’. Resigns AGM 1909 (health – good quotes). Died 16 Oct 1909 – Eashing Cemetery  plot -/225.

Lieutenant General Frederick Marshall President 1881-    (see good quotes AGM 1895, 1898 etc) Died 8 June 1900 (see Surrey Ad obit).

Francis Dowse – Hon. Secretary 1881-1892 1894-(see AGM 1894) to joint sec 1905 to 1908. (Surrey Ad obit. 24 Oct 1908)

Thomas Baverstock on committee AGM 1896 and probably earlier (see AGMs 1895 & 1896). Ditto 1898.

Thomas White AGM 1892 ‘Mr White’ collector. ‘who has left the neighbourhood’ and replaced as collector by J. Wright AGM 1895. Was mayor 1869.

Walter Hoar – Hon. Treasurer 1884 AGM described as ‘Councillor Hoar’. Died Jan 1900.

Alan Hoar – son of WH? Took over on death of WH

Joseph Wright – Collector 1894 AGM. 1895 AGM. 1897 AGM. 1898 AGM.

Mr Dodge jun chaired AGM 1888, ‘Mr Dodge’ dead by AGM June 1894 (senior or junior?)

Mr Allen Nevill replaced Mr Dodge on committee AGM June 1894.

Rev G.S.Davies – voted onto committee AGM June 1894
