GAS v Farnham MG Richardson and Harris lakes
Forty two fished this inter club match and we used Richardson lake and 1-20 on Harris to accommodate the numbers. The match was divided up into four sections for the pools with the top here in each section picking up. The top four overall weights on the day were 1st Apollo boss Steve Moore on peg 32 who fished a small feeder across and casters over groundbait near the wire at 10mtrs to take the 53.4.0winning weight of Tench Bream and Crucian. Second best weight came from Farnham MG member Terry Pilgrim on peg 11 with a similar catch of 51.13.0 on the pole at 12 mtrs using Grounbait with caster and worm. Andy Rogers took third with 40.12.0 fishing the waggler and white maggot on peg 29 (A stirling effort from this peg) just beating Farnham MG Chris Ludlow on peg 48 who banked 39.8.0.
With plenty of space for the seven competitors, it would not be down to that which would spoil their day. It would be more like the hot weather which saw fish cruising just under the surface, a sure sign that feeding was not on their minds, despite previous reports of good fishing. Even so, it would be down to the area they did fancy the odd nimble!
Draw is always important on any match and last years top junior Ben Gregoriades showed his skill once more at pulling the ‘rabbit out of the hat’ with an end peg at the top of the swimming pool bank (peg 4). But it was Dan Norris on peg 12 who had the first fish, a decent size common of 11lb 1oz. Not to be denied, Ben then proceeded to take a further 5 fish for a total of 51lb 10oz, topped by an even bigger common of 11lb 14oz and an easy win. Dan did add to that first fish with another two, to register a 29lb 8oz for second place. Our young female star, Jessica Carter, usually goes for the masses of silvers present in the lake and had a stellar day weighing in a superb net of roach, rudd and perch for 15lb 10ozs for third place.
