DECEMBER 2016 proved somewhat doubly disappointing for the 2nd netting of Broadwater. The allotted date of the 5th proved only suitable for gulls ice skating on the lake! Therefore the date given for the Richardson netting of the 12th, was commandeered.
The plan was simple. Re-seed the same area as in November, then net and compare the results...hopefully!
But things didn't go to plan and after a fruitless first netting around peg 14, the decision was made to re-lay the 220m net out from the 'point'.
The move to net off the 'point' was not overly successful with the number of fish caught down on the previous netting in 2011. However the excercise did reveal that while the overall population looks to be down, the actual average weight is up with the biomass remaining virtually the same.
