Broadwater netting November 2016

NOVEMBER 2016 saw the first ecological survey of Broadwater lake and it's residents for several years. Carried out by the renown Sparsholt College, near Winchester, they had a team of young trainees to do all the 'grunt' work.

There were a few welcoming surprises during the netting operation. This super crucian (left) showed that Broadwater still holds some specimens for those willing to take the time getting past the carp! Right: Just one of the many fish taken in what proved to be a productive netting.

It’s a long process recording weight, length and then marking the fish caught on just one sweep of the net! It provides an invaluable source of information for the Society to monitor and/or regulate the current number and health of the present population.
