What a brilliant match for the 6 who managed to attend! The 2016 U23 World Champion, Alex Clements, was once more in attendance to give our juniors some great instruction. Alex spent considerable time going round each junior and offering advice and instruction to help them catch more.
As the match started, Ben Barnett began to show a clean pair of heels to the field, but it didn't take long for Ethan Etherington to make up ground. Ethan's currently on the England Talent Pathway scheme and getting some top instruction from the likes of Des Shipp!
With Ethan practising his set approach, as detailed by the scheme, it became clear that he was pulling in better fish more often than Ben. But there was plenty of other action going on as well. Daniel Casbon and Tye Hackman were both catching reasonably well.
As Alex went round to each junior, you could see that they were listening intently (so was I as well!!!). Each junior seemed to get progressively better for the visit as they continued to put a variety of fish in their nets. The presence of such a high profile young angler will no doubt give confidence to all our juniors over the coming year.
But the star of the show was Ethan who weighed in a superb 20lb+, mainly of crucians but with a few tench and roach. Ben filled the second place with a creditable 13lb+ and Daniel Casbon took third place with 12lb+. Our thanks go to Alex for giving something back to angling... he's a real star!
